Just over an hour before the NCAA deadline, San Diego State's do-it-all forward Jalen McDaniels announced his intention of returning to school on Wednesday night.
Yahoo!'s Shams Charania first reported that the redshirt freshmen wing would remain at SDSU with the possibility of elevating his draft stock to first-round status in 2019.
McDaniels averaged 10.9 points and 7.5 rebounds in 24.7 minutes per game for the 22-11 Aztecs, including seven double-doubles. He became a consistent starter for Brian Dutcher's first team as head coach by Mountain West conference play, most notably after he put together a productive second half in SDSU's 72-70 win over No. 12 Gonzaga.
McDaniels wasn't one of the 69 athletes invited to the NBA Draft combine but individually participated in workouts for the Bucks, Bulls, Cavaliers, Celtics, Clippers, Hawks, Jazz, Nets, Spurs, Timberwolves, and Warriors before announcing his decision.
McDaniels' younger brother, Jaden McDaniels, is a consensus top-50 prospect in the 2019 class and was recently selected to Team USA's under-18 roster, which currently includes just 33 of the top basketball prospects in the country.
