A day after San Diego State learned that one of its starters will be returning for his senior season, another key player followed him with power forward Jaedon LeDee announcing his decision to come back for one more season with the Aztecs.
The senior from Houston had been going through the NBA pre-draft process receiving input about his potential future as a pro, but he withdrew his name from consideration Tuesday — one day before the NCAA deadline — allowing him to make his return to The Mesa.
"I got great feedback from the people and organizations I met with and know what I need to work on to achieve my goal of playing at the next level," LeDee said in a statement provided by the Aztecs. "With that being said, I'm excited to continue my journey at San Diego State and help lead the team to another Mountain West title and back to the postseason in 2023-24."
LeDee's return gives the Aztecs a proven option to move into the starting lineup in the front court with the recent departure of starting power forward Keshad Johnson, who recently announced his transfer to Arizona.
The 6-foot-9 big man played in 39 games last season for the Aztecs making one start against UC San Diego in December. He contributed with 7.9 points and 5.3 rebounds in just 18 minutes per game.
He scored in double figures in 11 games for the Aztecs including a 23-point performance against BYU early in the season to go along with a 21-point showing in March against Wyoming.
LeDee played some of his best basketball late in the season as SDSU made its historic run through the NCAA Tournament en route to the national championship game against Connecticut.
He averaged 9.3 points and 6.2 rebounds in the final month of the season showcasing his importance as a reserve in his first season on the floor with the Aztecs.
LeDee is exercising his option for an extra season of eligibility that was awarded to all players during the COVID pandemic. He recently graduated from SDSU.
His return follows a similar decision by Final Four hero Lamont Butler, who announced his plans to rejoin the Aztecs after testing the NBA waters this spring as well.
College players with remaining eligibility have until Wednesday to decide whether or not to remain in the draft process or return to school.
