Aztecs land commitment from San Diego native, Oregon transfer Jalil Tucker

When Oregon freshman defensive back Jalil Tucker entered the transfer portal this spring, he immediately became an intriguing prospect. Rivals quickly ranked him as one of the 100 best transfer players in the portal, and he garnered attention from different programs. Arizona hosted him on an official visit, but Saturday he ended his second recruitment by announcing his plan to return home to San Diego where he will play for the Aztecs.

Tucker, who played at Lincoln High School and became a four--star recruit with the Hornets, visited SDSU last week before coming to his decision over the weekend.

Not only will Tucker be returning home to continue his college career, but he will also be returning to a position he played previously as well. After arriving at Oregon to play cornerback, Tucker will make the move to offense where he will play receiver for the Aztecs.

The 6-foot transfer was credited 40 catches for 835 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns during his time on offense at Lincoln, so there is reason to believe that his transition to the other side of the ball will come with some success at SDSU.

The addition of Tucker, who is currently rated No. 87 overall in the Rivals Transfer Portal rankings, continues the team's success on the recruiting trail this spring. The Aztecs have landed five commitments so far in the 2024 recruiting cycle and each of them had Power Five options on the table at the time of their pledges to SDSU.

Brady Hoke's program also added several key transfers earlier in the offseason including Texas safety JD Coffey and Oklahoma State defensive lineman Samuela Tuihalamaka.

The Aztecs signed two high school receivers, Baylin Brooks and Tyson Berry, in the previous recruiting cycle and added Raphael Williams Jr. as a transfer from Western Carolina.

Tucker played sparingly in his lone season with the Ducks. He appeared in the season opener against Eastern Washington and recorded one tackle over seven snaps before opting for a redshirt season.

That leaves him with four seasons of eligibility with the Aztecs.
