SDSU adds to 2018 class

San Diego State's 2018 class received some additional pieces during the NCAA's beginning of the traditional signing period on Wednesday, adding to an already local-centric class.

Rocky Long saw some changes to the Aztecs coaching staff since the early signing period in December but quickly added, and held onto, two local prospects that went in different paths out of high school.

Luqman Barcoo, who primarily lined up on offense during his stint at Grossmont College, is expected to join SDSU's small and unproven cornerback unit. His speed and ball skills shown on film are expected to mix up well with his anticipated attitude on the defensive side of the ball. Barcoo graduated from Castle Park high in Chula Vista.

Joining him will be former TE/DE San Marcos standout Joah Robinett, who signed with Oregon State out of high school. The the big athlete in his 6-6 frame suffered an injury prior to spring camp last year and moved back to San Diego county to be closer to family. Robinett is currently attending Palomar College and will enroll at SDSU in the summer, likely to contribute on the defensive line with his still-growing build.

The newest junior college addition is also expected to line up off the edge. College of San Mateo three-star outside linebacker Jalil Lecky also has a lengthy frame with the versatility to drop back in coverage or rush the passer, projecting him best at SDSU's outside linebacker on the line of scrimmage.

Zidane Thomas put up the best stats in Arizona at his position and makes the most out of his frame. Thomas was a one point Boise State commit who considered several other P-5 destinations before committing to SDSU during a recent visit.

Kobe Smith was a deep threat on one of California's most recognized powerhouses for high school prospects. At 6-foot-3, Smith fit the profile for one of SDSU's biggest priorities to close the class. Since the other need was a power running back, Thomas and Smith's commitments provided two three-star rated prospects to top off the class.
