One of the largest prospects in the country is set to visit San Diego State next weekend. Despite his size, Scottsdale Community College lineman Robert NelsonClick Here to view this Link. is also a great athlete. “In high school, he was a volleyball player and he turned down a scholarship from Hawaii,” Scottsdale C.C. head coach Ken Giovando explained. “He is a black belt in Taekwondo.”
Nelson is listed at 6-foot-10, 345 pounds but according to his coach, he is more like 7-foot-0, 357 pounds. “He is probably the biggest player in all of football,” Coach Giovando said. “What a big human being.”
The young offensive tackle continued to draw high praise from his coach: “He runs a legit 5.0-forty and he has some unbelievable skills,” Coach Giovando added. “He is unbelievably strong.”
San Diego State, Saint Mary’s, Middle Tennessee State, Wyoming and Louisiana-Lafayette are the main colleges involved in his recruiting. “I can’t understand why more big schools won’t look at a guy that has this type of body,” Coach Giovando expressed. “The old staff at Arizona was really high on him. I’m trying to get Mike Stoops over here to take a look at him.”
The Aztecs have offered and will get a visit from Nelson next weekend (Dec. 12th). He just returned from a trip to Saint Mary’s.
“As tall as Robert is, I think he’d fit in as a weakside tackle,” Coach Giovando added. “He is going to play on Sundays.”
