Ranked by Rivals.com as one of the top 60 outside linebacker prospects in the country, the Lake Balboa (Calif.) Birmingham High standout committed to San Diego State earlier this month.
"Coach Craft was the first head coach that came into my house and he seems to really connect with all his players," Laolagi expressed. "He is just a good guy."
His commitment came shortly after his official visit on December 10th, but Laolagi admitted that he was leaning towards the Aztecs before the trip.
"I guess I knew San Diego State was the school for me closer to the end of our season," he stated. "They were coming on real strong. I just felt real good about them."
"They were pumped up when I committed," he added. "They said I made their week."
Kirk Morrison's playing days might be over at SDSU, but he had a hand in the Aztecs' landing Laolagi. "Hanging out with him was really cool," he said. "I got to hang out with all the players. The linebackers knew who I was; they showed me a good time."
In his 41 games as a starter at Birmingham High, he racked up more than 500 tackles.
"Luke reads offensive schemes extremely well," said Birmingham head coach Ed Croson. "He doesn't waste any steps. He is really fast and he is just such a great athlete."
Laolagi is a fast-paced football player that is almost always around the action. Off the field, he doesn't take himself too serious. "I'm kind of a joker," Laolagi admitted.
