LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - One day after admitting a little bit of nerves on his first day of Under Armour All-America practices, Avery Young was back to normal.
"Oh yeah," he said. "It was just another day of practice. Everything was good."
The Rivals100 offensive tackle has settled into his role as a left tackle for Team Highlight, a spot he intends to hold through Thursday night's game.
"Today was a lot faster," he said. "There's still a little nicks and bruises from the first day, but everything went pretty good. It could have been a lot better, but that's football. Every day can't go perfect like you want it to. It felt pretty good."
Moving on past the all-star game, Young is tied into a recruiting process that has found him favoring three teams that he describes himself "neutral" on.
"It's what I've been telling everybody," he said. "There ain't no favorites."
Young's top three is currently Auburn, Florida and Georgia, three schools he will decide between on National Signing Day, but not before then.
"It's kind of nerve-racking because at the same time I've got to pick the best school because if I don't pick the best school things won't go right for me," he said. "I'm just trying to find the best place."
With his only available January official visit going to Miami, Young will likely rely on phone conversations to iron out his final decision. He said he has spoken with Florida's staff extensively since the departure of offensive coordinator Charlie Weis, and he is very close with UF offensive line coach Frank Verducci and wide receivers coach Aubrey Hill, his recruiting coach.
"They talk to me a lot, and I also told them, too that pretty much every school is going to have their coaching changes, so that wasn't a real shocker to me," Young said. "That wasn't my position coach, so it doesn't even bother me."
While he said he is good friends with both Verducci and Hill, Young said he knows his decision is all business and that's how he will make it. He also said offensive styles won't factor into his decision. He has no issues with spread or pro-style offenses.
Young said the biggest things that will factor into his decision is an understanding that he can be used at his prospective school combined with what players are leaving and where he would stand on the depth chart.
Playing his high school ball at Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.), Young is good friends with a number of Florida commits including offensive lineman Jessamen Dunker, who he rode to Disney World with for Under Armour practices. He said there have been a fair share of pro-UF talk thrown at him the past few days.
"They're trying a little something, but I just look at them and laugh," he said. "That's it."
