Grutza Looking to Hold off Competition
For the Fourth day in a row the heat index rose above 90 degrees as the Bearcats practiced for the second straight day in helmets and shoulder pads on hot turf at Nippert Stadium.
The question on everyone's mind coming into camp was who will be the starting QB on August, 30th when Cincinnati takes on the Redhawks of Southeast Missouri State. Through the first 4 practices it appears as though Dustin Grutza is doing everything he can to hold onto his starting job.
"From the spring game until now his arm has gotten a lot stronger," said Cincinnati QB coach Greg Forest. Coach Forest attributes a few things to Grutza's improved arm strength.
"One, the shoulder injury, he did more rehab and got a lot bigger in the shoulder capsule, and two throwing every day over the summer really has helped him gain more strength.
