UA signees continue senior seasons
Last week we had an introduction to the senior seasons of Arizona's 2007 class. Here's an update on how the five future Wildcats are performing as their final prep seasons continue.
Jamelle Horne, San Diego High School:
After scoring 26 points with 14 boards and five assists in San Diego's 53-50 loss to Poway, Horne's team bounced back in its second game. In an 83-47 victory over Montgomery, Horne scored 23 points to go with 11 rebounds and five assists.
Through two games, Horne is averaging 24.5 points (56% FG, 42% 3PT), 12.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists.
Up next for Horne is a Dec. 6 game against Fallbrook.
Alex Jacobson, Mater Dei High School:
After averaging 8.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 blocks in Mater Dei's first two games, both wins, Jacobson helped lead this team to three more victories
Mater Dei defeated Palos Verdes 84-53, Centennial 64-47 and Gahr 105-61, which was the championship game of the Cerritos Tournament.
Statistics of the Centennial game haven't been made available, but Jacobson had nine points against Palos Verdes and seven points in the win over Gahr.
Mater Dei plays again on Dec. 9 against Jordan High School.
Zane Johnson, Thunderbird High School:
Johnson has played two games since our last update, when his team was 3-3. The 6-foot-6 forward was in Tucson to take on Amphi in a game attended by UA assistants Miles Simon and Jim Rosborough.
In Thunderbird's 84-42 win, Johnson had 14 points, four rebounds, five assists and four steals. Due to the blowout, he only played less than three quarters.
Up next for Johnson was a game against Notre Dame Prep, in which Thunderbird won 75-57. Johnson scored 17 points in the victory.
Thunderbird takes on Cactus on Dec. 5.
Jerryd Bayless, St. Mary's High School:
In our last update, Bayless and St. Mary's had gone 2-2 in their first four games. There's been two contests for St. Mary's since that time.
On Nov. 30, St. Mary's took on top-ranked Mesa Mountain View and lost by the score of 76-55. Bayless did his best to lead his team to the upset by scoring 37 points in the loss. The game was attended by Josh Pastner.
St. Mary's defeated Mesquite 77-60 the following night. Bayless was impressive in the win, scoring 28 points to go with four rebounds and four assists, despite not playing much of the last fourth quarter of the 77-60 win.
Up next for St. Mary's is a game at North on Dec. 5.
Laval Lucas-Perry, Powers Catholic High School:
Lucas-Perry starts his season Dec. 5 against Northwestern.
