Auburn lands a steal in Dewayne Reed
Not much was known about Houston Wheatley point guard Dewayne Reed when he committed to Auburn last month. The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder wasn't on a lot of recruiting lists this time last year.
But that all changed after a sensational senior season.
"Dewayne had a tremendous senior season," said Wheatley head coach Chester Smith. "I think Auburn definitely got a steal in Dewayne. His stock went out the roof right after the Academy (National Invitational) Tournament in December. He had some heavy hitters after him and it really took off after he made his test score."
The biggest area Reed must improve in is his patience according to Smith. It's something Smith has already talked extensively with Reed about as he prepares him for the step up in competition.
"We run an up-tempo style of play. We try to get a shot off in 10 seconds. That's our rule," he said.
