GBK.com's Inside the Huddle: One Step Away
INSIDE THE HUDDLE:
Defensive end Josh McNary's status is still up in the air for tomorrow's contest against Kent State.
If McNary is unable to go, which it truly appears is the case, look for the following personnel changes.
On Saturday, Marcus Hilton will be out at the field in McNary's customary quick defensive end spot and freshman Quentin Kantaris stepping in at Hilton's defensive end position.
For Kent State, if quarterback Spencer Keith who suffered a thumb injury on Saturday is unable to go, that could offset the loss of McNary. Keith is a very large piece of the offensive puzzle of Kent State. He is effective at slinging the ball around and running their offense efficiently.
However, if football history has taught us anything, it is often more difficult to prepare and defend the unknown versus the known (Keith).
Mike Gann will be at his customary nose tackle spot and will be backed up by [db]A.J. Mackey, who saw quite a bit of action last week against Air Force.
Joining Gann inside will be Jarrett Mackey at the bandit spot in the middle.
For the third straight week, cornerback Antuan Aaron will be sidelined and look for sophomore Josh Jackson to man one corner, along with Richard King. Jordan Trimble, who started last week at corner opposite Jackson, will be back in the safety rotation.
Those close to the program will tell you that the team is not looking to mess up the mojo, so to date, not a single word has been spoken relative to a bowl possibility.
Yes, the coaches and players know that the possibility exist and coming into the season, one of the team's goals was to be bowl eligible. However, this is a subject that just is not talked about much by the team, if at all. As one insider stated, "we just don't want to mess up the mojo ... really, not word has been talked about and you don't want to get ahead of yourself where you lose focus."
Overall, the offense should be intact minus slotback Malcolm Brown.
Wide receiver Davyd Brooks who went out with the trainers just before the first half against Air Force where he banged up his knee and is probable for this week
Kickoff time for Saturday's game is scheduled for 2 p.m Dix Stadium in Kent, Ohio.
